David grew up in Colac, in country Victoria, playing footy, running a farm, and managing a Murray Grey stud. He's worked in music production in Sydney, done bar work, and moved through many different chapters of life with energy and curiosity.
After a period in hospital following an accident, David came to our Geelong house.
He wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but it didn't take long.
On the day he was shown around, he spotted a familiar face. Jade - a mate from Colac he hadn't seen in fifteen years - was living there. "I thought, wow. This place is great."
What he values most about living here is the peace. A lot of things are taken care of, the stress is less, and the house has a calm to it that he appreciates. "It's very peaceful. And all the staff and the other people that live here are great. I love it."
He speaks warmly about the people around him "The staff are very respectful. They've got time if you want to have a talk. I feel like it's a safe place to live."
Rachel, the Residential Supervisor whom he describes as “consistently supportive, helpful, and approachable” says:
"David brings such a warmth to the house. He's always smiling and makes a point of checking in with everyone. But what's been most rewarding is watching his personal confidence grow.
He's become someone the other residents genuinely lean on, and that means a lot to all of us."
It's a life that looks different to the one he had before - but it's a good one. "I try to be a happy person."
And from everything he describes, he is.
